After reading jalist’s post on ls2k it got me to thinking,
why is it that people never seem to go anywhere but to one or two
sites now? I personally reference about 400 sites a day to dig for my
news and even then I end up missing some. So the “I can get all my
news from X site.” doesn’t play out. Maybe it’s because they are not
getting enough press? Well FPN posts about new sites, as do I, all the
time so that can’t be it. So why is it that people never, ever seem
to go anywhere but to the main site of a shell/os? This kinda baffles
me as each site always seems to have something another site doesn’t
have. A little twist of its own on the community that it’s representing.
Each site has something another doesn’t. Don’t settle for just visiting
one site each day for your news. Make it a point to try and visit
at least one new site a week. Remember that the webmasters of these
sites have put alot of work into a site for you.

“Sentry”. It’s very customizable, supports Magic Pink ™

- Added FakeTransparency parameter. With real transparency, the
clock hands do not show over the transparent regions. With
this option they do.
- Added NoSeconds parameter. Use this option to not have a
seconds hand.
- Added RefreshRate parameter. Default refresh rate is 1
second. Example would be when using NoSeconds parameter you
don’t need to refresh every second so using 60 seconds would
be better to cut down on resource usage.
- Added CenterDateX parameter. Centers the date horizontally
in the clock.
- Added CenterDateY parameter. Centers the date vertically in
the clock.

- Shell Logon 0.4 ~ Grant Stanley (11:18 03.07 na)
Shell Logon replaces the Windows 2000/NT4 logon screen. It
currently allows you to logon to the local computer or a
domain, as well as being able to select the shell your going
to use at logon instead of changing the registry, and then
re-logging on, or using another program which doesn’t allow
you to select the shell on the same screen.
New in this version:
- Task Manager now loads and DOESN’T crash the computer.
- You can change your password successfully.
- You can lock the computer and it requires the username and
password to unlock it.
- Shell Logon remembers the last shell used and automatically
selects it.
- Shell Logon is now a lot more stable and ‘shouldn’t’ crash
your computer.

- V2MM under going rewrite ~ Mathias Fischer (15:11 06.07 v2)
“V2MM (Visual Virtual Memory Manager) is mainly a memory
manager, but no traditional one. It organizes the memory in a
way like a filesystem with folders and directories. It uses
small information blocks which can point on code as well as on
data like pictures in memory. So everything in memory is
public, there are no individual programs anymore, they are
intended to work together, to share resources and to behave in
the same manner.”
After cursing around the page abit, it looks like you can
download a pre-beta copy of a working V2MM before he started
the rewrite. This looks to me like it could be a very nice
addition to V2_OS.

I gleaned this off the LSMailing List. I took two of the relevant
messages from this thread: OT: sharing pagefile.sys W2K with W9x/WME.

Hiya, I found this very handy topic: paging file sharing for W2K and
W9x/WME; as you know W2K uses pagefile.sys as a swapfile (paging file)
… and W9x and WME uses a .swp file (I forgot the name :) If you’ve
configured your system, as I have, to use a static swap file (rule
of thumb: the size is three times your RAM) for both W9x and W2K.
In my case that 124 * 3 > 307,2.
Here’s what you enter in your system.ini (in c:\windows most likely)
under [386enh] :
PagingFile=E:\PAGEFILE.SYS
PagingDrive=E:
MinPagingFileSize=307200
MaxPagingFileSize=307200
where E: is the drive you’ve got the swapfile on. duh
anyway, be sure to have an equal size for both W2K and W9x/WME…
that’s it…

This can also be done in the GUI under NT 4.0 or Windows 2000
In Windows 2000 right click on the My Computer, Properties, System
Properties, Advanced, Performance options .. you can also set on
what drives the swap file exists.
For 98 this can be done by:
right click on My Computer, Properties, Performance, Virtual Memory,
at this point you have to do the settings yourself.

PCAnywhere style interface. Because it is coded in java, it is
platform independent meaning you can set up a server on a Mac and
