06.05.00 – 12.05.00

Well no complaints on any of the new sections that I have added
so I guess there being taken well.  I will though be changing the name
of LSWeekly to XSWeekly and was wondering if anyone has a problem with
this?  Now, along with a new name, I will be making a new site that
will be a bit more useful than the current LSWeekly site.  Not only
will it house back issues of LSWeekly/XSWeekly, but I am considering
some site specific items such as interviews, mail bag, etc.  If anyone
out there has some site specific ideas drop me a note.

Also I am taking personal rants that I will post under my rant
as I did last week.  The rules of the rant are simple: 1) Please no
swearing or direct attacks against anyone 2) Try to keep it short but
not too short.  Last weeks were a good size. 3) Do me a favor and
at least spell check it before sending it to me.

custom icons to grdTray. read all about it further down

Themes
—————————

- sQuirrel 1.1c ~ starfire (15:59 12.05 ls)

A clean theme for power users wishing maximum desktop space and
effective resource usage.

Requires build 17-04-2000 or newer.

Features:
* No shortcuts makes for clean environment and less resource
usage.
* Minimized programs can be handled in several ways: Ctrl-Tab,
Popup menu and Tasks.dll display.
* VWM is hotkey-controlled and can be shown for ease of use.
* VWM and tray are hidden but available through both hotkeys
and keymodified mouseclicks.
* Footprint is currently ~500 Kb unzipped. Ideal for small-HD
systems.
* Useable with any res (only requirement is 24bpp). Good for
laptops and older computers.

Resource usage could be cut even more, but I’ve used some
perhaps unnecessary modules to make the theme more graphically
appealing…

[UPDATE 12-05-2000]:

Tasks display added. Name changed to sQuirrel. Work started on
skinning abilities. Wallpaper changer now uses lspaper.dll for
small size.

Web Sites

- Up Comming Module Skinning Site ~ Duinator (10:18 09.05 na)

“I will shortly be setting up a small web page. It will have a
little different purpose than most litestep based sites out
there. My plan is to concentrate not on themes or news but on
themes for specific modules. It will be aimed mostly at people
new to litestep who might find the prospect of designing an
entire theme daunting or are looking for a way to accomplish a
specific task. I also think it might appeal to experienced
users who may have run into a dead end in the designing arena.
It will eventually be possible for someone to sort of cut and
past different modules to develop a whole theme. If it works
out well I may add some graphics tutorials based on some of
the content. I am excited about this project and am rummaging
through my archive of themes for good examples and will be
downloading some themes also. What I need is for people who
may have content to send me their stuff at this email address.
Please keep in mind that this is a free email service and what
I don’t need is someone sending me 100Megs of stuff all at
once. I’ll want a screen shot of just the module in action and
a note on version numbers and hoops they needed to jump
through to get it stable. I also want any needed graphics and
step.rc/module.ini/theme.rc etc. But not the modules themselves.
There are enough places where they are available. I won’t
release the url until there is something to see but it will be
soon. Attached is a small example of what I want. It is a theme
for the old inciner8 module that I am converting to recycler
/dwarf.dll as I write this. Thanx.”

Tweaking Beyond the Shell

- Windows9x.bmp On The Start Menu

This hack will tell you how to change the Windows95 or Windows98
bitmap along the left side of the start menu. Even though I have
used MSPaint, you can use any other program that will make bitmaps.
I have just tried to keep the programs as simple as possible for
this tutorial.  You can get ReNovator at:

http://clio.unice.fr/~fbomers/ReNovator/

Step 1 – Start ReNovator and open Explorer.exe. This file can be
found in your \windows dir.
Step 2 – Goto Resources, Extract All Bitmaps.
Step 3 – Start MSPaint and goto File, Open, and open the bitmap with
the Windows9x.bmp (157.bmp)
Step 4 – Edit the bitmap to your liking (*Note* Keep the size the
same) then goto File, Save, and exit MSPaint.
Step 5 – In ReNovator goto Resources, Auto Assign Bitmaps.
Step 6 – Click on the Disk Icon to save Explorer.exe.
Step 7 – Close ReNovator and reboot your system.

Not only is chunkymunky the site that hosts my site, but it

- QuickClock pre-release ~ SnoCorp

“I’m really anxious to get this app out but it’s still only got
three skins included with it. Therefore, I’m doing a
pre-release of the program now and later when I have some more
skins to include, it will be the real release. Unless some
major bugs are found or I decide to add features, the program
won’t change; just the skins.

“This skinnable clock is very customizable, easy to use and
also easy to skin. It has an alarm that can launch a program,
display a message or make the ‘default’ sound. It can also
import CustoClock skins. It can dock to the screen edge as
well.”

Latest Builds
————-
- LiteStep
o Stable – b24.6 build 041700

o Daily – b24.6 build 041700
Modified [LSAPI, Desktop2 / NeXTer / 04-17-00]
o LSAPI:
o Merged new code for merging images in LoadLSImage().
Thank’s to Gustav Munkby (grd) for the new code.
o Removed some old junk.
o Added the struct Message for passing messages from
the WndProc to the actual message handlers.
o Desktop2:
o Began a slight revision, to make this piece of code
adhere to a “standard style” that can be used in the
future.

Modified [Desktop2 / NeXTer / 04-17-00]
o The code is now almost crystal clear, if we can apply
this structure to the other modules, much will have
been achieved.

Fixed [LSAPI / NeXTer / 04-17-00]
o ParseBangCommand() didn’t parse the information
correctly if NULL was being passed as the argument
for the bang command.
o Also fixed a memory leak in the same function, for
good measure.

- DarkStep
o Beta – 0.970pr4
* Fixed the Unload button under Loaded Modules not
updating the module list when a module was unloaded
* Fixed the Load button under Loaded Modules giving an error
message after successfully loading a module
+ Added !Config and !Modules which gives direct access to the
Configuration and Loaded Modules dialogs
* Fixed DarkStep crashing on !logoff and !quit
+ Added an auto load/unload option that would load/unload
modules when the module list is changed
* Fixed (hopefully <g>) dialog boxes giving weird error
messages under W2K when you try to load non-existent modules
